Finding happiness is almost impossible in Tchaikovsky's Yevgeny Onegin. All have dreams of happiness but they can barely achieve them. That is the essence of the piece, and because everyone has had to face painful rejection at one time or another, the focus on Tatyana's and Onegin's failed love lives is unquestionably recognizable to all members in the audience. As a result, the piece is almost indestructible. All the more so since Tchaikovsky wrote great music for it.
